Sewing Workshops for Schools
From full class workshops to after school clubs and small groups there are many ways Make it Fab can help schools bring sewing, sustainability and creativity to the Classroom.
I have over 25 years of experience of working with young people from 4 year olds in a summer club to supporting A-Level students with textile art projects. My schools work has a sustainability focus, helping young people make sustainable fashion choices, repairing the clothes they love and learning to develop their own style and improve their body image.
Textile Waste: Sew What

In 2024/2025 I ran the Textile Waste: Sew What programme and taught over 700 young people how to replace a button. A small but essential step to a sustainable fashion future. This project was been supported by the Tackling Textiles Skills and Innovation Grant. This is funded by the Department of Agricultural, Environment and Rural Affairs and managed on their behalf by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.
The good news is this means I am able to make the resources available to all schools in Northern Ireland and beyond. Presentation – opens in Canva but is presentable without creating an account. Teaching notes can be downloaded here.
In Person School sessions
I lam realistic about teaching sewing skills. Many adults don’t know how to sew a button on themselves, let alone have the confidence to run a session in class to teach these skills. I can run the Textile Waste Session session in your school for £2.50 per pupil (minimum of 25 pupils) in schools within a 15 mile radius of Belfast. This includes all resources, materials and a mini sewing kit for each pupil. These sessions can be tailored to fit a variety of topics, from World War 2 Make do and Mend at primary school to Climate Change in Geography in post primary.
