Reasons I love the humble gathered skirt

Gathered skirts are one of the easiest items of clothing to make – I’ve even had 7 year olds make them in the Make it Fab studio. This doesn’t mean they aren’t a great project for more experienced sewists as well!

🪡 You don’t always have to push yourself when making things. The joy of making can get lost if you are always trying to master a new technique. Taking your time over a simple make can be rewarding and relaxing!

🪡 We all lose our sewing mojo from time to time, or sewjo if you like a good pun. Making something straightforward can kickstart your love of sewing and give you a much needed confidence boost.

🪡 Gathered skirts are perfect for seasonal dressing. You will only wear a Christmas skirt a few times a year, beach wear comes out for a few weeks. Many of us fluctuate in size from year to year. A gathered skirt is easily adjusted, so prolonging the life of our clothes.

🪡 Not everyone has the time, energy or physical resources within them to create complicated items. Making simple items are just as valid as making an item that pushes the envelope of fashion design.
